Project Profile: Cuyuna Country Recreation Area Mountain Bike Trail System

The project focused on developing a world class mountain biking destination that draws riders of all abilities from across the country. Of equal importance, the trail system will be one of MN DNR’s cornerstone projects as it implements its strategic plan that emphases providing high quality facilities to entice more people to participate in outdoor recreation. Developed in a long abandoned mining area, the 22 miles of trails are spread out across a series of "hills" each of which were purposefully designed to exhibit unique personailities and levels of challenge. With quality as the mantra, the trails provide riding opportunities for beginners through expert riders that are fun, challenging, safe (in relative context), and a rewarding outdoor experience.

For this project, Jeff was the overall project manager, led the design team, and served as construction manager/owner’s representative during construction.

(Brauer & Associates, Ltd. was the lead firm for the construction documents phase of the project, and Jeff was a subconsultant to them. For all other work, Schoenbauer Consulting, LLC was the lead firm.)
